PATHWAYS ALLIANCE
WORKING GROUPS
Pathways Alliance working groups convene to discuss pressing topics related to effective and affordable education preparation programs and pathways. Our working groups provide guidelines to help states and school districts establish high-quality registered teacher apprenticeship programs and teacher residencies. Learn more about our working groups and how our work aligns with the Biden Administration's efforts to strengthen the teaching profession and help schools fill vacancies.

Apprenticeships Working Group
New avenues for apprenticeships have emerged this year with the Federal Department of Labor. They offer one way to address labor shortages: providing paid opportunities to prepare aspiring teachers for work in the education field. This working group will relate national guidelines and criteria to help others with apprenticeship groundwork. If you are interested in joining the Apprenticeships Working Group, complete the interest form below.

Teacher Residency Working Group Members

The teacher residency working group was co-constructed by a collaborative working group of Pathways Alliance members with expertise in residency development, support, and research. To inform and revise this definition, the working group sought input from other Pathways Alliance members and over 40 external groups and leaders — including districts, preparation programs, state education departments, and national professional and advocacy groups.
In August 2022, the group published "Towards a National Definition of Teacher Residencies," a report intended to support local partnership discussions about residency design and improvements and to provide state, regional, and federal leaders with a condensed yet thorough definition to guide policies that can support high-quality residencies to attract, prepare, and retain a robust and diverse teaching workforce.
