WORKING GROUPS
Teacher Residency Definition Working Group

The teacher residency working group was co-constructed by a collaborative working group of Pathways Alliance members with expertise in residency development, support, and research. To inform and revise this definition, the working group sought input from other Pathways Alliance members and over 40 external groups and leaders — including districts, preparation programs, state education departments, and national professional and advocacy groups.

Apprenticeships Working Group

New avenues for apprenticeships have emerged this year with the federal Department of Labor. They offer one way to address labor shortages: providing paid opportunities to prepare aspiring teachers for work in the education field. We found many programs are implementing paid opportunities to enter the profession, including apprenticeships. This working group will relate national guidelines and criteria to help others with apprenticeship groundwork.

Data Infrastructure Working Group

This working group aims to develop a set of recommendations and resources to support the growth of educator apprenticeship programs nationally by addressing a core operational need – collecting data for progress monitoring and reporting purposes for US Department of Labor-sponsored educator apprenticeship programs. Accurate data collection and use of standards-aligned systems will ensure compliance with reporting requirements, create a national data set for research outcomes about educator apprenticeships, further integrate labor and workforce data about educators for data-driven decision-making, and support improved decision-making in implementing apprenticeship programming.

Tutor Working Group

The Partnership for Student Success, the New Jersey Tutoring Corps, and the National Student Support Accelerator, in collaboration with the Pathways Alliance, have launched a national working group to develop National Guideline Standards (NGS) for registered tutor apprenticeships. This effort aims to align high-impact tutoring with workforce systems and apprenticeship pathways, expanding opportunities for sustainable funding and career-connected learning. The standards will help tutoring programs tap into workforce and CTE resources while ensuring program quality, evidence-based practices, and long-term impact for both students and tutors.
Principal Working Group

The Pathways Alliance launched a working group to shape National Guideline Standards (NGS) for principal apprenticeships. This collaborative effort brings together voices across the education and workforce sectors to define a shared vision for high-quality, field-based leadership preparation. Grounded in evidence-based practices and aligned with workforce priorities, these standards will help ensure principal apprenticeships are accessible, rigorous, and designed to meet the evolving needs of schools and communities.
